Golfers raise money for Hearts Together

The long-running event, founded in memory of former Hearts Together trustee Clem Spencer, brings together supporters, golfers and local businesses each year to enjoy a day of friendly competition and fundraising. It is organised entirely by volunteers, led by former trustee Rob Harder, who continues to champion Clem’s legacy and the spirit of community that inspired the event’s creation.

Despite the wet weather, the course was in great condition and players produced some impressive scores. Elfordleigh Golf Club Secretary, Shaun Johnson, took the top spot with 38 points, narrowly beating Best Guest winner Sam Lenthal.

Shaun was presented with the Clem Spencer Trophy and the coveted Red Jacket by event organiser Rob Harder.

The day embodies the generosity and kindness Clem brought to Hearts Together, and it’s fantastic to see that spirit living on year after year. Our thanks also go to everyone who took part, sponsored a hole, or supported in any way.”

The charity also extended thanks to Elfordleigh Golf Club and Hotel for once again hosting the day, and to St Austell Brewery for their ongoing support in providing refreshments for participants. The 2026 Clem Spencer Trophy will take place on Saturday 15^th August and will mark a special milestone – the 25th anniversary of the Hearts Together charity.

25 Years of Hearts Together!

We celebrated Hearts Together’s 25th anniversary this month with a party at our Hospital Hotel, highlighted by fundraiser Ricky Callow completing a 37-mile challenge. The day honoured our founder, Monica Pearce, celebrated the support we provide to families facing medical treatment, and marked the launch of our new Sponsor a Counsellor campaign to expand emotional support services for guests.

Our plans to expand

Our big build project sees Hearts Together set to expand from 26 bedrooms to 73 over two build phases, an ambitious but very necessary challenge that we intend to meet head on, as we look to accommodate the ever-growing needs of patients, carers, relatives, our local community, healthcare professionals and trainees.

This service has already shown to be absolutely invaluable, helping to reduce the stress and cost of transport, meaning that our guests can stay focused on supporting their loved ones or getting better themselves.

We use the money raised through this appeal to provide financial support to individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford to stay at our Hospital Guest Accommodation.
